'En-ngui-dzang' was the "hour of sunset," and this was soon followed by 'en-dzim-bu,' "coming-home time," when men and women and boys and girls stopped work on the fields and returned to the village. The married men and women went home, the women to cook the evening meal, and the men to visit the morung or the house of one of their friends, but boys and girls liked to gather at dusk on the open platforms outside the village. There they gossiped and joked, or sang alternating chants until nightfall, a time called 'wang-mang-phong,' "sky dark." |
