text: There were numerous Wangpeng clans in Niaunu. Such commoner clans of the same village could not intermarry, and their members either married commoners of neighboring villages or people of Wangsu clans, who could be of Niaunu or any other village. Women of commoner status were, of course, available as secondary wives of the men of chiefly rank, and such hypergamous unions were a frequent occurrence.
