text: At birth a child belonged to the clan of the man who, as the husband of its mother, was regarded as the child's legal father. There was no rite of formal acceptance into the father's clan, but every Konyak child enjoyed from the moment of birth the protection of the members of the clan to which the mother's husband belonged.
