text: One might assume that under these circumstances most girls would soon have found themselves pregnant, but despite the Konyak's ignorance of contraceptive devices, most girls indulged in sexual intercourse for several years without becoming pregnant. This phenomenon, common among primitive people, has been attributed to the period of relatively low fertility between the menarche and the attainment of full maturity.
