procession from the house |

These words were repeated several times. The wailing increased and the sound of buffalo horns mingled with the lamentations. An old man of Chinyak's clan, wearing the dead man's ceremonial headdress and carrying his spear and dao, left the house, and he was followed by the bier, which was carried by four old and completely naked men. Relatives and friends as well as the young men of the Oukheang and the girls of Balang and Ang-ban followed the bier, and the procession moved to the house which Chinyak had left in the last days of his illness. |
