text: It was customary to erect a corpse platform either on the communal funerary ground of the clan, which lay just outside the village, or on the deceased's own land, close to his house. In this case the platform was put on Chinyak's land, allegedly because he had purchased it himself and had neither son, nor father, nor brothers to utilize the site. Three years after Chinyak's death his clansmen would sell the land and divide the price.
