10. His personal property is inherited under a different rule. Lungdiliang is provided for during his father's lifetime. Namkia, the youngest son, makes a home for his parents in their old age and inherits the heirlooms and the remaining property at his father's death, subject always to deathbed bequests. Should a man die and leave no son to inherit, his chattels and privately-owned land may be inherited by a daughter, but his household luck-stones (hga) must be inherited by a male kinsman, either of his own tsami or of one believed to have common ancestry with his own. If no kinsman can be found, the hga must be thrown away in the jungle. |
