text: 1. Village rituals are always performed by the priests. Ceremonies in individual houses, whether as an accepted part of a village festival or purely privately, to cure sickness or avert misfortune, and usually performed by old men, but in some cases by old women. Elderly people, especially men, are in constant demand for small ceremonies of this kind and receive the rice, meat and beer left over from the offerings as a recompense for their trouble.
