and furthermore to this court came Wm Greene and Helen his wife customary tenants of this manor and in the right of Helen herself and Helen herself solely and secretly examined by the steward of the court as is the custom they surrendered into the hands of the lord by the hands of the aforesaid steward all those three crofts of land with appurtenances called Gosfen or by whatever other name they are called with appurtenances containing by estimation 7a of land as they are now divided from the rest of the said Gosfen and lying in White Colne and Colne Engaine in the county of Essex to the use and behoof of Wm Brand of Earls Colne yeoman his heirs and assigns forever upon condition that if the aforesaid Wm Greene and Helen his wife or either of them their heirs executors or administrators of any of them should pay of cause to be paid to the aforesaid Wm Brand his executors or assigns the sum of 50li of legal money of England in or upon the 13.10.1642 in or at the dwelling house of Rich Harlakenden esq lord of the aforesaid manor called Colne Priory in Earls Colne that then the aforesaid surrender should be void and of no force in law
