whereas at a court here held 21.10.1646 Edw Somerson and Kath his wife were admitted tenants of the lord for their lifetimes the remainder thereof to Giles Crow and Ann his wife and the heirs of the said Giles to one customary messuage or tenement and yard with appurtenances situated in Holtstreet in Earls Colne as by a roll of the aforesaid court it appears now to this court came the aforesaid Edw Somerson and Kath Kath herself solely and secretly examined by the steward of the court as is the custom and agreeing and surrendered into the hands of the lord by the hands of his aforesaid steward the aforesaid messuage or tenement and yard with appurtenances to the use and behoof of the said Giles and Ann and the heirs of the said Giles who present in court humbly sought admittance to whom the lord by the aforesaid steward granted and delivered thereof seisin by the rod to have and to hold the aforesaid messuage and tenement with appurtenances to the aforesaid Giles and Ann and the heirs of Giles from the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the custom of the aforesaid manor by the rents services and customs thereunto belonging and accustomed and they made fine and fealty
