was admitted for himself and his heirs to one customary messuage or tenement called
Thredgolds
or otherwise with appurtenances and to one croft of land containing by estimation 2a more or less then lately in the tenure or occupation of
Francis Smyth
and whereas at a court here held
16.10.1673
it was shown by the then homage that the aforesaid
Sam Burton
on
29.3.1672
surrendered by the rod into the hands of the lord of the aforesaid manor by the hands of
Jas Jey
instead of the bailiff in the presence of
Giles Crow
and
Robt Finch
two customary tenants of the aforesaid manor according to the custom thereof one piece or parcel of customary land part of a yard adjoining the aforesaid tenement called
Thredgolds
with an ancient barn built thereon lying in Earls Colne with appurtenances to the use and behoof of
Wm Hatch
of Earls Colne his heirs and assigns forever upon which the aforesaid
Wm Hatch
present here in court humbly sought from the lord admittance for himself as tenant to the premises by the surrender to his use to whom the lord by his steward granted and delivered seisin thereof by the rod to have and to hold the aforesaid parcel of yard and the aforesaid barn with appurtenances to the aforesaid
Wm Hatch
his heirs and assigns from the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the custom of the aforesaid manor by the rents services and customs thereunto belonging and by right accustomed and he gave to the lord for a fine etc |
