at a court held 16.10.1673 Wm Brewer was admitted to one messuage called Burtons with an orchard adjoining and to six closes of land containing 10a and to one cottage late converted from a barn and at a court held 30.3.1697 it appeared that the said Wm on 30.11.1696 surrendered by the hands of Solomon Grimston gentleman instead of the bailiff in the presence of Solomon Stebbing and Dan Cobbs the said premises and all his customary lands held of the manor to the use of his last will and at the same court it appeared that the said Wm Brewer lately died seised and that the said Wm by his will devised the premises to Wm Brewer his son which Wm the son at a court held 23.3.1698 was admitted now at this court it appeared that the said Wm Brewer the son died after the last court so seised without issue and that all other children of the said Wm Brewer the father died under the age of twenty-one years upon which came Ann Stebbing widow once wife of the said Wm Brewer the father and mother of the said Wm Brewer the son and showed the will of the said Wm Brewer the father made 2.12.1696 the tenor concerning the premises in the following words item I give and bequeath unto my said son Wm Brewer and his heirs forever all that my customary messuage or cottage commonly called or known by the name of Burtons or otherwise with six crofts of land thereunto belonging containing together by estimation 10a more or less with the appurtenances holden of the manor of Colne Priory and my will and meaning is that in case all my said children shall happen to depart this life without issue before they shall attain their ages of twenty one years then I give the said copyhold messuages lands and premises to my said wife Ann Brewer for and during their term of her natural life and after her decease to my right heirs forever as shown by the will etc and the said Ann Stebbing was admitted for life etc and gave fine
