at a court held 21.3.1683 Jn Newton was admitted to one cottage and curtilage with appurtenances late Wm Spriggs then in the occupation of Abraham Christmas and Jn King and at the last court here held 30.4. it appeared that the said Jn on 13.12.1716 surrendered all his customary lands etc held of the manor to the use of his last will now at this court it appeared that he died after the last court so seised upon which at this court came Jn Patrick son in law of the said Jn Newton deceased and showed the last will of the said Jn dated 13.12.1716 the tenor concerning the premises in the following words item I give and devise unto my said son in law Jn Patrick during the term of his natural life all that messuage or tenement wherein Wm Gibbs and Jn King do now inhabit and dwell with the yards and appurtenances thereunto belonging situate in Earls Colne aforesaid as shown etc and the said Jn Patricke was admitted for life etc and gave fine etc
