it is shown by the homage that Joan late wife of Robt Ots deceased and later wife of Rich Garrarde deceased who held for herself and her assigns from the lord as of the same manor by the rod at the will of the lord according to the custom of the manor and during the whole term of her life one croft of land with appurtenances lying in Estfeld adjoining Chalkeners one head thereof abutting upon the lands pertaining to the lands called Coppyns and the other head thereof abutting upon the way leading from Lowfield Lane towards Chalkney Wood as by the metes and bounds the remainder thereof after her decease to Jn Garrard son of the said Rich and the heirs of his body legitimately procreated and in default of such heirs to Nich Garrard son of the said Rich and the heirs of his body legitimately procreated and in default of such heirs the remainder thereof after his decease to the executors of the said Rich Garrard deceased to sell and the money thereof pertaining to be distributed in good works for all of the family of the said Rich Garrard deceased and for all the faithful dead as in a court here held the monday in the week of pentecost 10.6.19Hen8 it was clearly shown the said Joan died after the last court seised of such estates and upon this to this court came the said Jn Garrard and sought admittance to the said croft of land with appurtenances by right of the said remainder and thus it was shown by the homage therefore he was admitted thereof tenant of the lord to whom by the steward the lord delivered thereof seisin to hold for himself and his heirs and the heirs of his body legitimately procreated and in default of such heirs the remainder thereof as stated above and he gave to the lord his fine as is shown in the margin
