December. 14: My wife weakly and faint, yet cheerful when not troubled with toothache, my babe troubled with a cold, and so my daughter Mary . the good god preserve them, and take of his hand in affliction from them. This week acquainted with the scandal of Edward Potter in soliciting the chastity of the widow Ward , Lord this ought not to be named among christians, god gave me a heart to endeavour the punishing of this sin, he in mercy stir up the Magistrates against all evil ways; it was gods goodness that I and mine are not in the same condition, god good in our mercies, as also in the Sabbath, and the duties therein, his name be praised.
