May: 24: God was good and merciful to me and mine in all outward enjoyments, and keeping us in some measure in the way of his fear, Lord give an heart of uprightness, and help me to arouse myself to watchfulness against every corruption, that I may neither be burnt nor scorched by them, god was good to me in the Sabbath and the exercises thereof, almost at night my dearest Jane went out of Church very ill, her looks manifested it. it had troubled me more, but that I considered I was in gods service, it was not fit for me to lay out my passions of fear or love on the creature, when I was serving him that ought to have been with all my heart. I praise god next morning she was finely well and cheerful, our good friend Mrs Mary Church also was in this last week very ill on a sudden, but well recovered again next day, to god be the praise of all his goodness.
