18: Kept a day of humiliation at the priory , for the good success of Ireland, for rain, for my own illnesses, when I came to pray for rain, my heart was carried out to bless god for the sweet showers god gave us, and was full of confidence god would remember us with a full blessing therein, the next day was very hot, but at night, die 19 it clouded, and rained very sweetly, and so continues now on the 20th day, so that I hope god will fully satisfy the earth, and hear us in other particulars as in this of the season. I brought home a bible for my son Thomas which cost me 3s.2d.: this book is now very cheap, [Sleidan:] finished the reading his 26 books of Commentaries July 20: I begun to read his discourse on the 4 Empires containing 50 leaves and finished it July 29
