June: 30: This week past god was good to us in our peace, health, in providing for us, some afflicted with the smallpox, the lord for his name sake preserve my habitation, and be health and safety us, heard this week of the consuming plague in Ireland thy hand oh lord is lifted up, let thy poor saints, be hidden under thy wings. Cromwell is made Gen:(,) Fairfax has laid down his commission, the good lord order things for good: [N] my navel issued sometime this week but not much: the lord good to me in helping me to forget my sorrow, sweetening my heart in the meditations of himself, stilling my mind from running after foolish vanities keeping it in my thoughts much, to do Jesus Christ some service in my place(.) the lord was good to me in the Sabbath, for which I bless his holy name
