Feb: 22. This week past, the lord appeared gracious to me and mine in all our outward mercies, my little John very ill, but now again through mercy cheerful he was full of red spots in his face which surmised might be the smallpox, god was a sweet stay to my heart, as not apprehending they were, and its how easily he could remove fear when he calls in trouble, and command deliverance, when he calls in trouble. my heart much troubled with old vanities not constantly but by fits and starts, lord be thou my daily strength for my only hope is in thee(.) god was good to me this day in the word preached.
