July. 8: God was good to us in many outward mercies, gave us peace, quiet, but I find my heart exceedingly vain, full of foolish wanderings after things than cannot profit(,) I desire to loath myself, but yet I attain not to an inward spiritual frame, and to adorn the gospel in my conversation, I find my heart not so careful to provide for death, as I desire, but my precious time glides away. I gathered this day for Mary Peake whose house was burnt down. 31li.15s.8d.
