whereas at a court here held saturday in the week of pentecost 25.5.1594 Rich Mapas was admitted tenant of the lord for himself and his heirs to one parcel with a cottage built upon the parcel of land parcel of Stacies containing in length 36ft and in width to the edge towards the south west 9ft and to the other edge towards the north east 14ft in width with a certain way leading as far as the said cottage on the south boundary of the said cottage containing in width 2ft6i and one small piece of land containing about 2p around the same said place for watering adjoining the same said cottage now it is shown by the homage that the said Rich Mapas died many years ago and that Edw Mapas is his son and next heir and has the right to the premises upon which now to this court came the said Edw Mapas and sought for himself admittance thereof as his right and inheritance to whom the lord by his said steward granted seisin thereof to have to the same Edw and his heirs to hold from the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the custom of the said manor by the rent     and other services and the customs thereunto belonging and by right accustomed and he gave to the lord his fine as is shown in the margin and he made fealty to the lord and was admitted thereof tenant of the lord and afterwards the same court sitting came the said Edw Mapas and in full and open court surrendered the said premises with appurtenances into the hands of the lord by the hands of this said steward to the use and behoof of Robt Eelie and his heirs upon condition that if the said Robt Eelie his heirs executors or assigns should pay or cause to be paid to the aforesaid Edw Mapas his heirs executors or assigns 3li of good and english money upon 1.5.next following at or in the house now the dwelling house of a certain Robt Cobbe situated in Earls Colne then the said surrender in all its force should remain in effect otherwise it should be completely in vain and null and void in law upon which now to this court came the aforesaid Robt Eelie and sought for himself admittance thereof to whom the lord by his said steward granted seisin thereof to have to the same Robt Eelie and his heirs upon the said conditions to hold from the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the custom of the said manor by the rents     and by all other services thereunto belonging and by right accustomed and he gave to the lord his fine as is shown in the margin     and made fealty to the lord and was admitted thereof tenant of the lord
