whereas at a court here held 8.1.1645 Jn Reade was admitted tenant of the lord for himself and his heirs to one messuage and garden with appurtenances called Littmans as is shown by the said court roll now at this court it is shown by the homage that the said Jn Reade after the last general court viz 4.3.1648 out of court surrendered into the hands of the lord by the hands of the said Jn Joscelin then steward of the said manor according to the custom of the said manor the said messuage and garden with appurtenances to the use and behoof of Robt Johnson of Earls Colne and his heirs forever upon the condition that if the aforesaid Jn Reade his heirs executors or administrators should pay or cause to be paid to the said Robt Johnson or his assigns 31li4s of legal english money upon 2.10.next at the mansion house of Rich Harlakenden esq called Colne Priory that then the said surrender should be void now to this court comes the said Robt Johnson and gives the court here to understand and be informed that the said 31li4s or any part thereof was not paid on the said day and to this day remains unpaid and upon this he seeks admittance to the premises to whom the lord by the said steward granted and delivered seisin by the rod to have and to hold the said messuage and garden with appurtenances to the said Robt Johnson his heirs and assigns from the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the custom of the said manor by the rents services and customs thereunto belonging and by right accustomed and he gave to the lord his fine and made fealty
