and at this court it was presented by the homage that Jn Stephens the elder a customary tenant of the said manor since the last court that is to say upon 16.11.last did surrender into the hands of the lord of the said manor by the hands of Wm Adams the younger in place of the bailiff and in the presence of Hen Abbott and Wm Adams the younger two customary tenants of the said manor the same witnessing etc all that copyhold cottage in which the said Jn Stephens did then dwell built upon a parcel of waste ground containing in length 28rod and in breadth to one head 10rod and to the other head 9rod more or less with the appurtenances to the use and behoof of Edw Abbott brother of the said Hen and of the heirs and assigns of the said Edw forever upon condition that if the said Jn Stephens his heirs executors administrators or assigns or any of them shall and do well and truly pay or cause to be paid to the said Edw his heirs executors administrators or assigns at or in the now dwelling house of the said Hen called The Hayhouse and situate in Earls Colne 8li9s of lawful English money upon 17.11.1659 that then the said surrender shall be void and of none effect
