whereas at a court here held 2.1.last it was shown by the homage that Edw Grant who by copy of court roll bearing the date 6.6.1639 held for himself and his heirs one messuage with barn garden and orchard called Stacies with appurtenances after the then last court viz 25.6.1666 surrendered into the hands of the lord by the hands of Jn Kendall (may be Jn Kendall) instead of the bailiff in the presence of Wm Adams and Edw Browne two customary tenants of the said manor the same testifying etc the said premises with appurtenances to the use and behoof of Thos Rayner and Sarah his wife and the heirs and assigns of the said Thos forever then no one came etc now to this court came the said Thos Rayner and sought that he himself and the said Sarah his wife be admitted tenants of the lord for the premises to whom the same said Thos in person and the said Sarah by the hands of the said Thos in the part of her attorney and deputy the lord by the said steward granted and delivered seisin thereof by the rod to have and to hold the said messuage and other premises with appurtenances to the said Thos and Sarah and the heirs and assigns of the said Thos forever from the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the custom of the said manor by the rents services and customs thereunto belonging and by right accustomed and the said Thos gave to the lord their fines etc
