at this court proclamation was made the first time that if anybody would challenge one cottage with a curtilage which was sometime Jn Atte Cherche's in Earls Colne that he should come to the next court to show his evidence and title under pain to forfeit and let fall the said cottage from him and his heirs forever into the lady's hands because it is ruinous and in decay and now to this court came Thos Mannelee and Margt his wife and showeth a certain copy as appears in these words at the court here holden on monday being the morrow after st hilary 14.1.26Edw3 Rich Lambert surrendered into the hands of the lady one cottage with a curtilage sometime Jn Atte Cherche's to the use of Jn Wright and Alice his wife and the heirs of their own proper bodies begotten to whom it was granted to hold of the lady to them and their heirs of their bodies begot ten by the services and customs according to the custom of the manor saving the right etc and they made fealty etc and they gave the lady for fine at one whole sum 6d and the said Jn and Alice his wife shall pay yearly to the said Rich Lambard for the term of his life 2s at easter and michaelmas equally which unless they do the said Rich and his heirs shall enter upon the said tenement doing the services therefore to the lady as before etc and furthermore showeth a certain release as appears in these words I Rich Stonhis otherwise called Fuller and Margt my wife have remised released and forever for us and our heirs and executors quitclaimed to Andrew Goold and Joan his wife their heirs and executors all manner actions real and personal whatsoever which we have had or by any means hereafter may have against them by means of whatsoever debt or account bargain trespass or any other thing whatsoever from the beginning of the world even unto the day of the making of these presents in witness whereof we have set out seals to these presents dated on monday being the conversion of paul 25.1.7Hen4 and hereupon the rolls were searched and there the court roll was found ratifying and establishing the said copy as appears in these words Rich Lamberd surrendered into the lord's hands one cottage with a curtilage late Jn Atte Cherche's to the use of Jn Wright and Alice his wife to whom it was granted to hold etc as above and furthermore the said Thos Mannelee and Margt his wife say that Jn Wright and Alice his wife were the father and mother of the said Joan who was wife of Andrew Goold and that the said Andrew and Joan were the father and mother of the said Margt the wife of Thos Mannelee which now demand the same cottage with curtilage and hereupon inquisition was taken by the oath of the whole homage which say that the said Margt is the daughter and next heir of the said Andrew and Joan and that the said Joan was the daughter of Jn Wright and Alice and they are admitted tenants to hold to the said Thos Mannelee and Margt his wife their heirs and assigns of the lord to the will of the lord etc and he giveth fine 6d and made fealty
