Earls Colne inquisition by deed | whereas at a court here held on the saturday next after the feast of st andrew the apostle in 4.12.16Edw2 son of Edw it was shown that Jn Wytcherch held from the lord on the day that he died those lands and tenements which were of Once# the Blank and one messuage in the market place of Colne between a messuage of Jn le Swon# on one part and Thos Chapman on the other and upon this came Joan wife of the said Jn to show a certain deed by which the earl enfeoffed the said Jn of the tenement Le Blank# which was declared according to the form of the statute val# to have and to hold to the same said Jn and his heirs of the chief lord etc to return thereof to the chief lord 18d as rent per annum and concerning the said messuage it is shown by the said Joan a writing of the earl by which it is clear that the earl granted the abovenamed Jn to hold the said messuage to himself and his heirs by the services of 1d annually to be returned for everything etc and the aforesaid Joan sought to have custody of the said tenement and found heir etc until and the deed was not found sufficient to sustain the heirs as the said Joan had claimed above |
