Earls Colne prior of Colne | whereas at a court on the sunday next before the feast of the annunciation in 21.3.44Hen3 inquisition(inserted) Ralph son of Wm de Brunston now the prior of the Priory of Colne(inserted) came and surrendered for himself and his heirs forever all the messuage and tenement that he himself held next to the Priory of Colne which was sometime one meadow to the use of Muriel de Goswold to have and to hold to herself and her heirs from the lord earl and his heirs by the services thereof owed and customs without any maintenance of the said Ralph or his heirs and the said Muriel came and gave to the lord earl 10d inclusive for the messuage holding thereof to herself and hers to make thereof the services and it was granted and seisin given to her upon this form that the aforesaid Muriel granted remitted gave and quitclaimed to the lord earl and his heirs the homages and services of the aforesaid Ralph Brunston for all the tenements which Muriel herself purchased of the said Ralph and granted and which descended to her by reason of inheritance after the death of Goscelin her father with all their appurtenances all other retentions of rent thereof to the said earl and his heirs per annum the services thereof owed being 7s8d and the said earl confirmed that tenement of the said Ralph with the return thereof of the aforesaid services namely at the four pricipal terms for each term 23d and at a scutage of 1h at the greater and lesser terms and to excuse the plough team and reaping service in anticipation of the services and other feudal aids made to the said earl thus that any free tenants in the same said village and the said county and on account of the form of this warrant etc for 6s8d which was given to him and the same said Ralph similarly gave to the said Muriel for the aforesaid land 4marks with the aforesaid gift whereof it should be paid to the said Muriel or her assigns at pentecost 10s and similarly in august 20s as pledged etc |
