Earls Colne escheat inquisition heriot heriot inquisition Robt Atte Park heriot Thos Mordon whereas at a court here held on the wednesday next before the feast of st mark the evangelist 22.4.23Edw3 item they said that Jn Atte Medowe now Jn Grove (inserted) who held from the lord one messuage and 2a of land by the service of hedging pertaining to the lord from the gateway of Goules as far as the gateway of Jn Undyrwod died at the last court and no one sought for the said land therefore it was taken into the hands of the lord etc item it was presented to seize into the hands of the lord one free cottage which Thos Stubbard held from the lord by the services of 16d and which same said fell into the hands of the lord as his escheat because the said Thos was a bastard and returned to the lord of the profits etc item it was shown by an inquisition that Alice Wynter who held from the lord on the day that she died one messuage after whose death accrued to the lord as heriot one sheep valued at 16d and that Robt is the son of the same said Alice and next heir who present in court was admitted to the said tenements and gave to the lord for a fine etc and made fealty item they say that Wm Bolour who held from the lord on the day that he died one messuage and 1a of free land by the service of 15d per annum after his death one cow was seized in the name of heriot owed because the said Wm did not remain upon the said tenement etc and afterwards Alice Bolor came and showed a deed testifying the purchase of the said tenement therefore the demands made for a relief ceased etc item Jas Kyng now Robt Atte Park (inserted) came and surrendered into the hands of the lord one cottage lying at Sandelhatche and the lord granted out of his seisin the said cottage to the aforesaid Jas and Felicity his wife and the heirs of their bodies procreated and if it should happen that the said Jas and Felicity should die without heirs of their bodies legitimately procreated that the said cottage should remain to Jn Whitchurch now illegible text(inserted) Robt Barbour and Robt Wynter to have to themselves and their heirs by the services and customs and the said Jas assigned to the lord one cow valued at 3s in the name of heriot which was seized into the hands of the lord by the aforesaid assignment etc item Robt Copyn Thos Mordon (inserted) came and claimed to hold from the lord two parts of one messuage and of 30a of free land of which Lucy his mother held a third part by the service of 4s6d3f and the aforesaid Robt was admitted thereof tenant and gave to the lord as a relief 8s6d3f etc
