manor of Colne Priory be it remembered that upon the 12.12.1673 Sam Burton a customary tenant of the said manor did come before Jn Eldred esq steward of the said manor and did by the rod surrender into the hands of the lord of the said manor by the hands of of the said steward all that customary messuage or tenement called Thredgolds or otherwise with the appurtenances and one croft of land containing by estimation 2a more or less with their and every of their appurtenances now in the tenure or occupation of Edw Haksell the younger and Abrm Christmas and are holden of the said manor by copy of court roll to the only use and behoof of Geo Toller of Earls Colne in the said county of Essex singleman his heirs and assigns forever provided always nevertheless and upon condition that if the said Sam Burton his heirs executors administrators or assigns or any of them do or shall well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said Geo Toller his executors administrators or assigns the full and just sum of 53li of lawful money of England on or upon the 13.12.1674 at or in the now dwelling house of Robt Finch blacksmith situate in Earls Colne aforesaid then this surrender to be void or else to remain in full force Sam Burton taken and acknowledged the day and year above written before me Jn Eldred
