this indenture made 24.10.1705 witnesseth that Dan Roggers churchwarden and Wm Walker and Jn May overseers of the poor of Earls Colne with the consent of     two justices of the peace by these presents have placed and bound Wm Paine a poor friendless child as an apprentice to and with Sam Clarke of Lamarsh Essex wool kember and as an apprentice with him to dwell and serve from this day until he shall reach the age of twenty four years during which time he will serve his master etc Sam Clarke covenants to teach his apprentice the art trade of mystery of keeming and weaving or what other occupation he now useth and shall keep him in food etc and at the end of his time will deliver his apprentice two suits of apparel witnessed on stamped paper Sam Clarke witnesses Peter Dor Sam Burton W Luckin Jn Cressener justices of the peace
