in the name of god amen the 6.3.1548 I Robt Goldingham of Essex Earls Colne in the county of Essex gent at day of making hereof being of whole mind good memory and remembrance do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following first I admit and utterly revoke all other wills by me heretofore made devised or declared either by mouth or by writing willing in anywise that if such be hereafter forthcoming showed or commended of that no evidence be given to them or any of them but only to this which I ratify and confirm for my very and last will and I commend my soul to almighty god and to our lady saint mary and all the holy company in heaven my body to be buried in christian burial where it shall please god to call me to his mercy item I bequeath to the high altar where I shall be buried 3s4d item I will there be given at my said burial to priests clerks and to the sexton for ringing bells and making of the grave so much money as shall be thought requisite by the discretion of my executor item I will there be given the poor inhabitants of the town of Colne 20s item I will that at my month day there be likewise distributed unto priests clerks and to the sexton for ringing of bells so much money as shall be thought requisite and also I will there be distributed at the said month day to the poor inhabitants of the said town of Colne 20s my very mind and will is that the whole charges of the said day of burial and month day should amount to the sum of 6li13s4d item I bequeath to my sister Drury my goblet of silver with the cover item I bequeath to my sister Reede my ring of gold item I bequeath to my sister Cotton my silver spoons and as much silver as will make another three spoons item I bequeath to my goddaughter Ellen Cotton 20s item I bequeath to my goddaughter Edith Goldingham 20s item I bequeath to my nephew Jn Drury 10li sterling item I bequeath to my sister Drury and my sister Cotton all my bedding with all that belong thereunto to be equally divided between them except one featherbed which I give to Eliz Maltywade item I bequeath to my niece Drury one press or cupboard which she hath in her custody item I bequeath to Robt Crosse my godson 20s item I bequeath to Hen Davy my servant 16s8d one coat cloth and one cloak one pair of old hose one doublet of rooshons item I bequeath to the officers of my lord's house to be distributed by mine executor 20s8d item I bequeath to my brother Cotton all mine apparel to me belonging the residue of all my goods and ready money not bequeathed I put into the hands of my said brother Cotton to be used according to his discretion whom I make and ordain mine executor of this my last will and testament and my brother Drury supervisor these being witnesses Jas Bruwood Hen Davy and Jn Tuffeld
