in the name of god amen the 6.11.1554 I Robt Green of Earls Colne in the diocese of London being whole in mind and good remembrance thanks be to god do ordain and make this my last will and testament in this form following first I bequeath my soul unto almighty god and to our saviour and redeemer jesus christ to lady saint mary and to all the holy company of heaven and my body to be buried in the churchyard of Colne aforesaid by my children item I give and bequeath to Ann my wife for term of her life by the licence of my right honourable lord the earl of Oxenford and his court all those my tenements and lands of copyhold set and lying in Earls Colne also I give and bequeath unto the said Ann for term of her life all those my lands and meadows of freehold lying in Earls Colne and Gaines Colne and after the decease of the said Ann my wife I will that the said tenements lands and meadows free and copy to remain unto Rich my son and his heirs and if the said Rich fortune to decease without heirs of his body lawfully begotten then I will that the said tenements and lands and meadows both free and copy to remain unto Jn my son his heirs item I give and bequeath unto the said Jn all that my tenement and house of freehold in Halsted called the Dollfyn to him and his heirs and for lack of heirs of his body lawfully begotten I will that the said tenements to remain unto the said Rich my son his heirs the said Jn to enter upon the said tenement when he shall come to the age of 21yr and if it fortune that the said Jn and Rich my sons to decease both without heirs of their bodies lawfully begotten before the decease of their said mother then I will that all the foresaid tenements land and meadows to remain unto the said Ann my wife her heirs and assigns and that the said Ann during her life to maintain and keep all my said tenements in Colne in good and sufficient reparations and my cistern of lead to remain there still with my leads and ropes there now hanging item I give and bequeath unto the said Jn my son when he shall come to the age of 21yr 50li of lawful money of England to be paid by the said Ann my wife and if she do marry before he come to the said age then I will that she do pay it before the day of her marriage item I give and bequeath unto the said Rich my son 20li of lawful money of England to be paid to him when he shall come to the age of 21yr to be paid by the said Ann her heirs executors administrators or assigns and she to see him kept and brought up or cause to be kept and brought up whole and honestly till he shall come to the said age at her proper cost and charges item I bequeath unto Jn my son a featherbed with all thereunto belonging and my best gown with my satin doublet and damaske doublet with my chamlet jacket and two crossbows and two swords item I bequeath to Wm Green (may be Wm Green) my best blue coat a pair of russet hose and white fustian doublet my buff leather jacket and my best shirt item I bequeath unto my mother 1angel noble and to her daughter my sister Alice my bay colt going with her and 20s that she oweth me I will and 10s thereof to Jas her son and the other 10s to Jn and Rich the younger and to the said Jas I give my blue coat with the broad gards# and to Rich Sames my tawny coat with two gards# and the 20s in the hands of Denis# I give and bequeath to Gilbert 5s and 5s to Marge and 5s to Ann and the other 5s to my said sister their mother item I bequeath to Mary Sames 5s to be paid by the hands of my said wife and the residue of all my goods above nor within not bequeathed as well in it implements as household stuff I give and bequeath unto the said Ann my wife whom I ordain and make my sole executor to see my debts do be paid and this my last will and testament truly to be performed and to see me honestly brought in earth and to dispose for my soul in deeds of charity to the poor as she shall think best and for which to ever so to be done I ordain and make Rich Enows my supervisor of this my last will and testament in witness whereof Robt Person gent Geo Bestun and Jn Estey and I bequeath unto the said Rich Enows for his diligent labours therein 20s also witnesses of this my last will and testament Jn Maleri Thos Rowt and Thos Turner also I will if the said Ann my wife fortune to marry again before that the said Jn my son do come to the said age of 21yr then I will that the same Jn do enter in upon my said tenement in Halsted at the time of her marriage the time aforesaid appointed him the contrary notwithstanding
