in the name of god amen the 5.4.1575 I Thos Burton of Earls Colne in Essex being sick in body but perfect in mind and good remembrance thanks be unto the lord doth ordain and make this my present will and last testament in manner and form following first I bequeath my soul to almighty god and to his son my saviour jesus christ by whose precious bloodshedding I trust to be saved and by no other etc and my body to be buried in the churchyard of Earls Colne aforesaid item I give to the poor men's box there 6d item I give to Alice my wife all my movable goods chattels and debts whatsoever etc item I give to the said Alice my wife all my customary lands lying in Wakes Colne to her and her heirs with this condition that she shall see my children kept and brought up to the best of her power and to give to each of my children that is to say Eliz Burton Sam Burton Edith Burton 41s to be paid unto them as they shall come to their several age of 21yr and if any of them decease before their foresaid age that then that part to cease ungiven also I give to my child as yet unborn likewise 41s as is before to the other item I do ordain and make the said Alice my wife my sole executrix to see this my will fulfilled my debts to be paid and my body honestly brought in earth these being witnesses Wm Adams vicar Robt Read Jn Oddey tenant Thos Sever tenant Wm Bewers Jn Curlevannce and Barth Church made into the hands of the lord and surrendered delivered according to the use of this will in the presence of these persons above written as also of the sealing signing and delivering of the same etc memorandum the above named Jn Oddey and Thos Sever are customary tenants
