in the name of god amen the 17.12.1580 etc. I Wm Bridge of Colne Engaine being sick in body but whole in mind thanks be unto god do ordain and make this my testament and last will in manner and form following first I bequeath my soul to almighty god my maker and redeemer and my body to be buried in the parish churchyard of Colne Engaine item I give to the poor of this parish aforesaid 6s8d item I give to the poor folks of Earls Colne the sum of 6s8d item I give unto my son Jn my messuage or tenement called Tredgall Fenn with all the appurtenances belonging thereunto item I give unto my son Abrm my copyhold land called Baulyes which belongeth to the manor of Shrives in Colne Engaine with all the premises thereto pertaining item I give unto my daughter Margt 6li13s4d to be paid within one year next after my decease item I give unto my daughter Audrey the sum of 20li to be paid within two years next after my decease item I give unto my daughter Agnes the sum of 20li to be paid within three years next after my decease item I give unto Joan my daughter the like sum of 20li to be paid within four years next after my decease and if it shall happen that my daughter Joan be deceased before the day of her marriage that then my will and meaning is her aforesaid legacy shall remain and descend unto my youngest sons Abrm and Wm equally to be divided between them item I give unto my son Wm my best joined bed in the parlour with all necessary things belonging unto it and all the residue of my household stuff I give it unto the residue of my children that is to say Roger Jn Abrm Margt Audrey Agnes and Joan to be equally divided amongst them item I give unto my two sons Roger and Jn my lease of my farm the which I now dwell in with all the rest of my movable goods heretofore unbequeathed paying of my legacies and fulfilling of this my last will to be divided between them part and part like item I will that my sons Roger and Jn shall take up 5li13s4d of Wm Parker the butcher of Earls Colne and thereof my son Jn shall receive 53s4d and the residue of this debt I give it unto my youngest son Wm to be put to some good use for him by the hands of my son Roger until he shall come to the age of 20yr also I do ordain and make my two sons Roger and Jn my executors to this my last will and testament whereunto I have put my hand and seal in the presence of us Jeff Potter Thos Smyth (may be Thos Smyth) and Roger Lanesell with others
