in the name of god amen in the 5.7.1631 etc. I Jn Wenden of Colne Engaine in the county of Essex yeoman being sick in body but of good and perfect memory thanks be to god I do ordain and make this my last will and testament in manner and form following first I commend my soul into the hands of my maker hoping in the only merits of christ my saviour to be made partaker of life everlasting and I commend my body to the earth whereof I was made and to be decently buried in the parish churchyard of Colne Engaine item I do give and bequeath unto Wm my eldest son 10s to be paid out of my goods and chattels item I do give and bequeath unto Joan my wife the full sum of 70li of good and lawful money of England to be paid out of my goods and chattels item I do give and bequeath all the rest of my goods and chattels to be equally divided part and part like amongst the rest of my children as well to that or them in the womb of the mother which is not yet born as to them which are already born which are Jn Wenden my second son and Thos Wenden my third son and Dorothy Wenden my daughter and my will is if any of these my children named or that or them which shall be born which are now in the womb of Joan my wife shall happen to depart this life before they come to the age of 21yr my will is that the part of goods to it allotted shall remain to be equally divided between the rest of the other which shall be alive except to my son Wm aforesaid and if that all my children should happen to depart this life before they come to the term of 21yr then my will is that Wm my son shall have all their parts which shall be allotted to them out of my goods and chattels item I will that the rent of my farms which I now hold and all my other debts shall be paid out of my goods and chattels before they be divided to my wife her part before given and bequeathed and also to my children before mentioned their part given and bequeathed to them and my will is that Joan my wife shall have the use of all my goods and chattels to the bringing up of all my children and my will is that all my children as they come to the age of 21yr shall have their part and portion which shall or will be allotted to them given an acquittance for the discharge of that legacy and I do ordain and make Joan my loving wife my sole executrix of this my last will and testament and I do pray and entreat and ordain my loving father Wm Wenden and my loving cousin Robt Niccol supervisors to see my will performed in witness hereof I have hereunto set my hand the day and year above written mark Jn Wenden witnesses mark Thos Prentice mark Hen Girlyfence mark Rose Prentice
