in the name of god amen the 3.8.1647 etc I Jn Pigg of Newport Pond in the county of Essex being sick of body but of perfect mind and memory praised be god do ordain and make this my last will and testament in manner and form following utterly revoking all former wills and gifts made by me first and principally I commend my soul with its mortality into the hands of almighty god that gave it me steadfastly believing to have free remission of all my sins by and through the merits death and passion of my only saviour and redeemer christ jesus and by and through him to be partaker of eternal life and happiness and my body I commit to the earth from whence it came in hope of a blessed resurrection and concerning the disposing of all my temporal blessings as god have endued me withal I give and devise in manner and form following item I give unto Margt my loving wife my two cows and two hogs to do with them whatsoever she wills more I give and devise unto my said wife during her natural life my 2a of land in Widdington commonly called Hangeing Gren and after her decease I give and devise it unto Jn Pigg and Nich Pigg my sons and to their heirs to be equally divided between them more I give and bequeath unto my wife for her necessary use during her natural life my two best beds and all belonging thereunto one long table with six joined stools to it two livery cupboards one press one great trunk one great chest during her life one broad box one wicker chair two buffet chairs two great kettles one brass pot one iron pot one great posnet one flockbed and all that belonging thereunto during her life two cushions and one great glass to do to them what she will more I give unto my said wife for her use her life time one great dripping pan one little dripping pan one warming pan and all my pewter and all my brewing utensils one settle and some hogsheads one long carpet and all the linen I have to use during her life item I give and devise unto Wm Pigg my son and to his heirs one piece of customary land containing by estimation 2r being in Broadfeild in Widdington between the land of Barth Partteridge west and Wm Wright east and all the profits growing thereon more I give unto my son Wm my best featherbed and bolster next unto my wife's two formerly given and one blue rug and one pair of holland sheets item I give unto Jn Pigg my son my best bed standing in the parlour and all that belonging unto it to enter of it after my wife's decease item I give unto Sara Pigg my daughter one featherbed which was last made item I give unto Thos Greene my grandchild in money 5li to be paid out of the rents of my houses at Widford which shall first grow due item I give unto Jn Green my grandchild all the remains of my rents which shall grow due out of the said houses at Widford item I give unto Sara Beris my great trunk to enter of it after my wife's decease item I give unto Eliz Stock my daughter 40s item I give unto Bridget Mathewes my daughter in money 20s and these two last legacies to be paid within one year after my wife's decease out of those goods given her for term of life item I give and bequeath all my barley now growing and all the remainder of the goods formerly given my wife for term of her life unto Nich Pigg my son to pay mr Edw Turner 20li which my son Jn Pigg is bound for and if it shall happen that my son Nich shall refuse paying the same and shall suffer my son Jn to be troubled for it then my will and meaning is that my son Jn shall have the said barley and the remainder of all the goods formerly given my wife for term to satisfy the said 20li to mr Edw Turner all the rest of my goods movable and immovable I give unto Nich Pigg my son whom I make my sole executor of this my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day year first above written sealed and acknowledged his last will in the presence of mark Thos Wakefeld and Hen Woodley Jn Pigg
