in the name of god amen the 25.3.1648 I Wm Sparrow of Gestingthorpe in the county of Essex yeoman being sick in body but of good and perfect memory god be praised therefore do make ordain and declare this my last will in manner and form following that is to say first and principally I commend my soul into the hands of god my creator hoping assuredly through the only merits of jesus christ my saviour to have free pardon and remission for all my sins and to live everlasting in the high heavens with god the father god the son and god the holy ghost and to enjoy the company of all the glorious and holy saints and angels in recited and I commit my body to the earth decently to be buried item I give and bequeath unto Mary my wife for and during the term of her life one annuity or yearly rent of 25li to issue out due and payable out of my lands tenements and hereditaments to be paid unto her or her assigns at the feast day of michaelmas and at the feast day of annunciation by even and equal portions at the south porch of the parish church of Gestingthorpe aforesaid item I give and bequeath unto Wm my eldest son and to the heirs of his body lawfully begotten all my tenements and hereditaments with the appurtenances situate lying and being in Gestingthorpe aforesaid and if it shall happen that Wm my son die without heirs of his body begotten then I give and bequeath all the said lands tenements and hereditaments with the appurtenances unto Jn my son and to the heirs of his body lawfully begotten and for want of such heirs to the right heirs of me the said Wm Sparrowe forever item I give and bequeath unto Jn my son and to the heirs of his body begotten all my lands tenements and hereditaments with the appurtenances situate lying and being in Hedingham Sible and Hedingham att Castle or in one of them in the said county of Essex and also all my writings leases and evidence touching or concerning the Cage Crofts and in the said Hedingham Sible together with all my estate right interest term of years and title of in and to the said Cage Crofts with the appurtenances and if it shall happen that my son Jn die without heirs of his body lawfully begotten then I will the said lands tenements and hereditaments and the said Cage Crofts to Wm my son and to the heirs of his body lawfully begotten and for want of such heirs then to the right heirs of me the said Wm Sparrowe item my will and meaning is that the said lands tenements and hereditaments given to Wm my son and to the heirs of his body shall be letten by my executors with the advice and consent of the supervisors of this my will until the said Wm my son shall come unto the age of 21yr and that the yearly rents and profits thereof will is shall be and remain for and towards the payment of the said annuity of 25li to Mary my wife and the education of the said Wm my son and the rest of my children and likewise my will and meaning is that all the said lands tenements and hereditaments with the appurtenances and the said Cage Crofts given to Jn my son and his heirs shall be taken by my executors with the consent and advice of the supervisors of this my will until the said Jn my son shall come unto the age of 21yr and that the yearly rents and profits thereof arising shall be and remain for and towards the payment of the said annuity of 25li to Mary my wife and the education of the said Jn my son and the rest of my children item I give and bequeath unto Mary and Martha my daughters all my rents goods chattels and movables whatsoever except only the lease and writings concerning the said Cage Croft equally to be divided between them and my will is that all my said goods chattels and movables shall be sold by my executors within two years next coming after my decease by and with the consent of the supervisors of this my will and the monies thereof arising or therefore received to be by my executors with the consent of the said supervisors put out to interest or laid out to the advantage of my said daughters and either of my said daughters to be paid their several portions as they shall come to their several age of 21yr or their several days of marriage which of the said ages or days of marriage shall first happen and if either of my said daughters shall happen to die before the portion of her so dying shall become due to be paid then the one of them to be paid and have the portion of her so dying and if both of my said daughters shall happen to d ie before their portions shall become due to be paid then my will and meaning is that the said portions shall be paid and remain to my said sons Wm and Jn equally to be divided between them item I do make nominate and appoint mr Jn# Higham with mr Nich Beereman my brother in law executors of this my will and I do nominate make and appoint mr Thos Ady my brother in law and mr Wm Phillippes my brother in law and Wm Phillippes his son Jn Thurber of the said Gestingthorpe clerk and Jn Sparrowe my brother supervisors of this my will and my will and meaning is that yearly my said executors shall give and render an account to my said supervisors what money they or either of them shall yearly receive for my said land and how they have bestowed the same and if any overplus shall remain in their hands the same shall be and remain to my said sons Wm and Jn item I give and bequeath unto Frances Finch my maidservant 8li of lawful money of England in witness whereof I the said Wm Sparrow have to this my will set my hand and seal the day and year first above written Wm Sparrow sealed and delivered in the presence of Geo Jarman Edw Newman Robt Finch and Thos Courtman
