in the name of god amen the 7.12.1657 I Wm Brewer of Much Tey in the county of Essex yeoman being aged and weak in body but of good and perfect mind and remembrance I give god thanks therefore I do make ordain and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form following and I do hereby utterly renounce and revoke all and every other will and wills by me heretofore made whatsoever first and principally I commit and commend my soul into the merciful hands of almighty god the father my creator and to his forever blessed and beloved son jesus christ my redeemer and to the holy ghost my comforter and my body to the earth from whence it came to be decently buried according to my degree and for that part and portion of worldly goods wherewith it hath pleased almighty god out of his free favour and love to endow me withal secondly I give and bequeath unto Jn Brewer my second son and to his heirs and assigns forever all that my copyhold messuage or tenement and six closes or parcels of copyhold land in the parish of Earls Colne holden of the manor of Colne Priory called Burtons or by what name soever the same now are or at any time heretofore hath been called containing in all together by estimation 10a be they more or less with all and singular their and every of their appurtenances thereunto belonging upon condition that the said Jn Brewer my son his heirs executors administrators or assigns shall deliver unto Mary my well beloved wife one half load of wood or logs every year during the full term of her natural life and shall also pay unto the said Mary my wife the full sum of 3li of good and lawful money of England every year during the full term of her natural life at the four most usual feast days or terms in the year that is to say at the feast day of annunciation stjn michaelmas and xmas by even and equal portions that is to say the full sum of 15s of good and lawful money of England at every of the said feast days in like manner also I give and bequeath unto Wm Brewer my eldest son the full sum of 5li of good and lawful money of England to be paid unto him within four years next ensuing after my death by mine under named executors upon a release and discharge for the same under his hand and seal in like manner also I give and bequeath unto Jn Tibbold my grandchild the full sum of 20li of good and lawful money of England to be paid unto him so soon as he shall attain to his full age of 2yr in like manner also I give and bequeath unto Mark Brewer my youngest son and to his heirs and assigns forever all my copyhold messuage or tenement wherein I now dwell called by the name of Grosse Holmans or by whatsoever other name or names the same now is or at any time heretofore hath been called with all and singular every the houses edifices buildings barns stables outhouses yards gardens orchards lands meadows pastures and feedings whatsoever now or by what name soever containing in all together by estimation 20a more or less all situate lying and being in Much Tey aforesaid holden of the said manor by copy of court roll upon these conditions hereafter following that is to say upon condition that the said Mark Brewer my son his heirs executors administrators or assigns shall permit and suffer the said Mary my well beloved wife to have the use and occupation of all the lowest rooms in this my dwelling house together with one upper room at the north end of my said dwelling house with all the benefit and profit that shall arise increase and be made of all my orchards every year during her natural life with free liberty of ingress egress and regress for herself and her servants into the street and foreyards at all times during the natural lives as aforesaid and also upon condition that the said Mark Brewer my son his heirs executors administrators or assigns shall deliver or cause to be delivered unto the said Mary my wife one load of wood or logs every year during her natural life and shall likewise also pay unto her the said Mary my wife the full sum of 4li of good and lawful money of England every year during the full term of her natural life at the four most usual feast days or terms in the year that is to say at the feast day of annunciation stjn michaelmas and xmas by even and equal portions that is to say the full sum of 20s of good and lawful money of England at every of the said feast days all the rest of my goods chattels and implements or utensils of household stuff whatsoever or wheresoever unbequeathed my debts and legacies being paid and my body decently buried I do give and bequeath unto the said Mary my wife and to Mark my son to be equally divided between them part and part like and I do make and ordain the said Mark my son (inserted) and Jn Somersam my wife's brother to be executors of this my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day month and year above written the mark of Wm Brewer sealed
