in the name of god amen I Math Newman of Earls Colne in the county of Essex being sick in body but of a sound and perfect mind and memory thanks be to god do make this my last will and testament in manner following hereby revoking all former wills by me made first and principally I commend my soul into the hands of almighty god my most merciful creator hoping to be saved through the merits of jesus christ my most gracious redeemer and my body I desire may be decently interred at the discretion of my executor herein after named and as to that worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased god to bless me I dispose thereof as followeth viz imprimis I give and devise unto Margt my loving wife for and during the term of her natural life all that my messuage or tenement with the buildings yards gardens and appurtenances thereunto belonging situate lying and being in Earls Colne aforesaid and now in the tenure or occupation of Sam Guyon or his assigns and after the decease of the said Margt my wife I give and devise the said messuage and premises unto my nephew Thos Newman one of the sons of Chas Newman and to his heirs forever item I give and bequeath unto the said Margt my wife all the goods and household stuff now standing lying and being in two rooms of my now dwelling house viz in the parlour and the room where we usually lie item I give unto her my smallest boiler two kettles and two skillets also my clock and jack turnspit and the candlesticks mortar coffeepot and the other small utensils and things upon the mantelpiece in the dwelling room item the teakettle and half the pewter item all my plate and household linen except the servants sheets item I give unto the said Margt my wife all my coals being about a cauldron and a quarter and all the wood in the yards and the sidesaddle and pillion also ten cheeses and a seam of my best wheat item I give and devise unto my loving brother Robt Newman and to his heirs forever all that freehold messuage or tenement wherein I now dwell with the freehold outhouses barns stables and freehold yards gardens orchards and lands thereunto belonging upon condition that my said brother Robt Newman or his heirs shall and do pay or cause to be paid unto my nephew Chas Newman one of the sons of my said brother Chas Newman the sum of 150li within one year next after my decease and in case he or they shall refuse or neglect to pay the same then I give the same unto my said nephew Chas Newman and his heirs item I give and devise unto my nephew Robt Newman son of my said brother Robt Newman and to his heirs forever all my copyhold lands and tenements whatsoever situate lying and being in Earls Colne aforesaid now in my own occupation which I lately purchased of mr Gilb Smith and Ralph Josselin or either of them item I give and devise unto my said brother Robt Newman and to his heirs forever all that my freehold meadow commonly called Stourbridge Meadow which I lately purchased of the said Ralph Josselin upon condition that my said brother Robt Newman or his heirs shall and do pay or cause to be paid unto my two nieces Sarah Newman and Mary Newman daughters of my said brother Chas Newman 20li apiece within one year next after my decease and in case he or they shall refuse or neglect to pay the same then I give the said meadow unto my said two nieces Sarah Newman and Mary Newman and their heirs forever item I give and devise unto Jn Newman and Chas Newman my brothers for and during the term of their natural lives and the life of the longer liver of them all those my two houses or tenements in Earls Colne in the said county of Essex in the occupations of Wm Beard and Hen Sweeting with the lands grounds and appurtenances thereunto belonging in Earls Colne aforesaid and Colne Engaine in the said county of Essex and from and after the decease of the survivor of my said Math Newman (inserted) two brothers Jn Newman and Chas Newman then I give and devise the same premises unto my nephew Jn Newman son of my said brother Chas Newman and to his heirs forever item I give and devise unto my sister Susanna Golding widow for and during the term of her natural life all that my now erected messuage or tenement in Earls Colne aforesaid standing near to my said messuage in the occupation of Sam Guyon with all the materials ready for the finishing of the said now erected messuage together with free ingress and regress for her her tenants and assigns to and from the pump in the yard belonging to the messuage in the occupation of the said Sam Guyon to take and fetch water there at all times and after the decease of my said sister Golding I give and devise the said premises unto my niece Lydia Renaugh the wife of Thos Renaugh and to her heirs forever item I give and devise unto my nephew Joseph Golding son of my sister Golding and to his heirs forever all that my copyhold house or tenements with the appurtenances wherein Wm Ellis and     Choate spinster dwell in Earls Colne aforesaid upon condition that he shall deliver unto my executor a note under my hand part whereof is already paid item I give and devise after the decease of Margt my wife unto my nephew Robt Newman son of my said brother Chas Newman all that my copyhold messuage or tenement with the lands and appurtenances thereunto belonging in Earls Colne aforesaid and now in the occupation of Edw Crabb or his assigns to hold to him and his heirs forever upon condition that the said Robt Newman my nephew or his heirs shall and do pay or cause to be paid unto his sister Eliz Newman the sum of 20li within two years after he or they shall enjoy the said premises and in case he or they shall refuse or neglect to pay the said 20li then I give the said premises unto the said Eliz Newman and her heirs forever item I give and bequeath unto my niece Eliz the wife of Joseph Constable the sum of 20li to be paid by my executor within one year after my decease item I give and bequeath unto my said niece Lydia the wife of Thos Renaugh the sum of 20li to be paid by my executor within a year after my decease item I give and bequeath unto the said Margt my loving wife the sum of 5li to buy her mourning and a pair of coleracks item all the rest and residue of my goods chattels cattle corn farming stock household stuff and personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever after my debts legacies funeral charges and probate of this my will shall be satisfied paid and discharged I give and bequeath unto my said brother Robt Newman and lastly I do nominate and appoint the said Robt Newman my brother sole executor of this my last will and testament in witness whereof to this my last will and testament contained in two sheets of paper I the said Math Newman have to each sheet thereof set my hand and
