this is the last will and testament of me Joseph Ellis the elder of Earls Colne bricklayer I direct all and every my copyhold messuages or tenements land and hereditaments and premises to be sold by my executor hereinafter named as soon as conveniently may be after my decease and the money arising therefrom I direct to fall into the residue of my personal estate I direct that the purchaser of my said estates shall not be obliged to see to the application of the purchase money but that the receipt of my said trustee and executor shall be a sufficient discharge for the same I give and bequeath the clear monies to arise from the sale of my said copyhold estates and all and every my monies and securities for money goods chattels and real and personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever unto and equally between my children Jn Ellis Thos Ellis Sam Ellis Wm Ellis and Mary Mumford and my grandson Joseph Ellis son of my late son Joseph Ellis deceased and do appoint Jn Walker of Earls Colne aforesaid esquire sole executor of this my will and do declare that he shall be at liberty to retain all his reasonable expenses in the execution there and hereby revoking all former will or wills heretofore by me made do declare this to be my last will in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 17.3.1824 mark Joseph Ellis signed sealed published and declared by the said testator Joseph Ellis the elder as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us who in his presence at his request and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as witnesses Wm Ruffle Isaac Joslin Watson
