1675 whereas Thos Ellis of Halstead in the county of Essex and Joanna Morley of the same town and county having declared their intentions of marriage at several public meetings of the people of god called quakers in Essex which was approved of by the said meetings now these are to certify all people whom it may concern that for the full determining of the intentions aforesaid this 27.6.1675 in an assembly of the people of god called quakers at their meeting place in Halstead the said Thos Ellis did solemnly in the fear of god take according to the example of the holy men of god recorded in the holy scripture of truth the said Joanna Morley to be his wife and likewise she the said Joanna Morley did then and there take the said Thos Ellis to be her husband each of them promising to be faithful one un to the other he as a loving and tender husband and she as a loving and obedient wife so long as they should live and we who were then present at their taking each other have hereunto set our hands witnesses unto the same the day and year aforesaid Edw Morley Rich Ellis Joseph Tapp Wm Barron Jn Isaac Robt Ludgater jun Jn Barret Jn Numan Sarah Swan Kath Isaac Eliz Morley Wm Bunting Thos Isaac Wm Newman Francis Hunwick Joseph Vook Wm Swan
