1678 whereas Robt Pettit of Fearing in the county of Essex and Mary Lease of Great Coggeshall in the county aforesaid having declared their intentions of marriage at several public meetings of the people of god called quakers in Essex which was approved of by the said meetings now these are to certify all people whom it may concern that for the full determining of the intentions aforesaid on this 31.3.1678 in an assembly of the people of god called quakers at their meeting place in Great Coggeshall the said Robt Pettit did solemnly in the fear of god according to the example of the holy men of god recorded in the scriptures of truth take the said Mary Lease to be his wife and she the said Mary Lease did then and there take the said Robt Pettit to be her husband each of them promised to be faithful one unto the other he a a loving and tender husband and she as a loving and obedient wife until the lord by death shall please to separate them and we who were then present have set our hands witnesses unto the same that they were married the day and year aforesaid Robt Ludgater sen Robt Adams Wm Ashpoole Robt Ludgater jun Jn Clarke Jn Garritt Jn Fryitt Rich Cox Edw Gardener Josiah Clarke Thos Purcas Jn Ludgater Geo Guyon Sarah Clarke Margt Browning Frances Radley Sarah Ludgater Rebecca Ludgater Martha Ludgater Eliz Lawrence
