letter from Pawsey to Archer about independence |

I am returning in January. I don't suppose there will be any difficulty at all about your stopping in M'chung until March. If the Semas, Lhotas and Aos are run by the N.N.C. there will certainly have to be an S.D.O. or A.P.O. or someone for the T.F. areas. They can't manage without one. The N.N.C. seem to have had a minor split and the extreme independent party have broken away. I think its a very good thing. They are a very small minority and the Merhema khel of Khonoma are the leaders. The outside villages are fed up with it all. I don't know what the eventual fate of the Nagas will be - there's nothing we can do to help them that we haven't already done. But it seems a pity that we couldn't have had a few more years to get things straight. |

I've not yet heard about the Pangsha-Panso column being sanctioned but I imagine it must be on - will it do if I come to M'chung about 20th Sept. to discuss things - By that time we should know definately. |

In any case Pangre will have to be burnt again. They have just taken 20 more heads off Mutongre, because the latter helped the Government ... C. Pawsey |
