text: | The river was in spate, eddying under the bridge a thick greyish white. I noticed that the suspension bridge was erected in 1899 by Burn and Co, 'the year my father died and I was in my mother's womb', said our Lhota interpreter. These bridges must have played an essential part in the opening up of the Naga Hills by the early administrators, for a river like the Doyang is a formidable barrier. |
