text: As we rested by the water, the Nagas made some tea. To do this they cut chungas which are the usual Naga cup. They take their daos, chop down a bamboo, and cut out a segment which has a node at the bottom and is open at the top. They slope off the open end to make a lip and then the tea and water are boiled up in it over a fire propped against a Y stick. I remember how some of Wingate's men, whom I had met in Mussoorie, told me that they had been taught to do this on their jungle-training so as to dispense with billy-cans and stoves. The tea was delicious and the green bamboo gave it a special flavour all its own. (38)
