text: | We were accompanied today by the ear-splitting squeals of pigs. Three men and a small boy were taking them on their backs. The boy, dressed only in a dao case, was carrying a piglet in a small wicker coop, but the men had three large sows lashed flat with creeper thongs to a kind of bamboo raft. Their snouts were gagged, but their protests rose loudly on the air. |
