text: | As we rounded a bend, I saw my first mithan, a huge lumbering black beast, a cross between an ox and a bison. Mithan are kept chiefly for sacrifice and it is easy to understand after seeing their noble massive frames, why they are honoured as a symbol of greatness. For most of the year they roam at will, but now when the crops are getting tall, they are herded in the jungle and taken to the villages at night. |
