text: | For the first time, many of our porters are women. The Aos, Lhotas, and Semas never let their women do this work. Most of these who carry loads are either unmarried girls or women whose first marriages have failed and who are now back with their fathers. On the way, some of them stopped to urinate. They went to the side for a moment, parted their legs and then went on. It was all completely natural, entirely public and no one took the least notice. |
