text: News had also come that a Phom of Phomchung has killed a man from the neighbouring village of Pongnyu. He was hotly pursued so he threw the head into the jungle but brought back a leg. We have also heard that a man of Mongnyu, another Phom, has also killed a man from Shamnyu. With news of impending extension of administration it looks as though the Phoms are rapidly working off old scores before settling down. (160)
