text: The rain stopped only just before we reached Mokokchung. At the gate we were met by Mr Hari Blah, a Khasi who now has Mills' former post as Sub-Divisional Officer in Mokokchung. Near the entrance to the village stands a morung, in front of it an open space and a big stone platform. One side of the space is bordered by the house for the great slit-drum. Mokokchung is a big Ao village without any remarkable features. Numerous gaonburas were expecting us and we had to sip at many a bamboo of rice beer.
